The Rule of 5x Innovation

Developed by Inflight Peripherals, this rule provides our engineers with the simplest of guiding principles for design.

When designing a new product, or re-designing an old one, our goal is to achieve a five times improvement in at least one feature of that product. This may be to reduce the weight by a factor of 5, or to make it 5 times smaller, or cheaper. We believe that we will have succeeded if we can demonstrate a 5 times improvement somewhere in the design.

Throughout this website you will see references to the Rule of 5x Innovation, and where there is a check mark related to a particular product, then we are confident that we have achieved a five times improvement in at least one feature of that product.
