Geoff Underwood founded IFPL in 1996 following a highly successful career with GEC Marconi working on Inflight Entertainment Systems. Always leading by example, Geoff works closely with his team to ensure the high standards and trust on which the business has been founded are maintained at all times. Geoff takes an active role in understanding current and future issues faced across the industry, using his insight and the resources of IFPL to meet these challenges. An enviable number of accolades including two Queen's Awards for Enterprise bear testimony to this undertaking. Geoff has a personal commitment to improve the lives of others and to help the broader business community, reflected in his many charitable undertakings and key roles as Chairman of the Isle of Wight Technology Group and President of the Isle of Wight Chamber of Commerce.

Appointed in January 2013 as COO, Tim Young is a graduate of Mechanical and Production Engineering whose early career was within the automotive industry as a Manufacturing Systems Engineer. Prior to joining IFPL, Tim was Managing Director of Parlex Europe; a leading flex-circuit manufacturer based on the Isle of Wight and part of Johnson Electric – a Hong Kong domiciled multinational sub-systems company. As an operations management professional, Tim has extensive line management experience, a high quality blue-chip background and is one of a small group of people to have implemented Goldratt’s OPT and Theory of Constraints methodologies. Tim gained his MBA from Cranfield University’s prestigious School of Management; a world leader in management education and research. Tim also holds an advanced diploma in management accounting.
David Thomas joined IFPL in 2015 and serves as the Vice President of Business Development. David brings his extensive knowledge and experience of the IFEC market and airline industry to IFPL from his previous high level roles with industry specialist Thales and Rockwell Collins. In this role, David leads the company’s broad business development activities across global markets in addition to product innovation and channel development strategies. David graduated with honours from Brunel University London - a world-class university whose mission has always been to combine academic rigour with the practical, entrepreneurial and imaginative approach pioneered by the Universities namesake Isambard Kingdom Brunel.
When Josh Baker joined IFPL in 2002 he was one of only 5 employees, today as Development Manager, he is part of a team of over 50. With responsibility for leading the planning and execution of all new design programmes Josh is involved throughout all stages of product development, from early customer contact to first production deliveries. From experience and knowledge gained in his prior role as Production Manager, Josh understands the important relationship between Engineering, Operations and the customer that is essential in effectively delivering new product and design innovations. Like so many of his colleagues, Josh is actively involved in many of IFPL’s charitable and community projects.
Quality is at the heart of IFPL and Mike Woodward as Quality Manager takes a lead role in ensuring full compliance in relation to applicable aerospace regulatory and legislative requirements are maintained at all times. In addition, Mike drives an approach to quality across all departments and key processes that supports a culture of continuous improvement and has been key in delivering AS9100C accreditation to IFPL. As a six-sigma black-belt practitioner and graduate of the University of Leeds, Mike uses his knowledge coupled with experience gained from roles within the Doncaster Group and PCC Airfoils to ensure that IFPL deliver not only market leading products but 100% compliance and customer satisfaction at all times.
As Operations Manager Marcus Baker has responsibility for overseeing production planning and manufacturing through to the safe dispatch of all IFPL products; working closely with customers internationally and across internal departments to ensure the timely and accurate fulfilment of all orders. Joining IFPL in 2000 Marcus initially worked as part of a dedicated team overseeing the production of a key order for IFE system components. Since this time Marcus has built significant knowledge and understanding across all aspects of production through a professional hands-on approach that has brought him respect from colleagues and customers alike. He also takes an active role in the company’s charitable projects, recruitment and apprenticeship programmes.
Having joined IFPL in 2015 as Office Manager, Karen Rogers oversees all aspects of Administration, HR, Health & Safety and Facilities Management within IFPL, Karen is also PA to Founder and CEO Geoff Underwood. Karen’s exceptional organisational aptitude and ability to prioritise, combined with excellent interpersonal skills ensures high standards are always maintained across the company. With over 18 years management experience and as an Honours graduate in Political Philosophy, Karen brings a significant wealth of knowledge and proven experience to IFPL. Her prior roles as Head of Operations for A&B Group, Administration Manager with leading charity UKSA and Business Manager of Radiation Watch bear testimony to Karen’s unique abilities.
As Chief Engineer, John Wright is an Innovator and one of a very rare breed of Product Life Cycle Specialists. Delivering enviable technical focus with a ‘can do’ attitude, John uses his knowledge and the application of technology to both develop innovative new products for IFPL and to resolve many of the IFEC issues faced across the industry. Working with IFPL since the very start and with experience within the highly regulated, and intrinsically safe, nuclear industry John understands more than most how a sound methodological approach and attention to detail takes away uncertainty - to achieve a high yield and ultimately a more successful product that pays dividends for customers.
Mark Reed is Director of Business Development, North America for UK based IFPL. A role in which his technical expertise and commercial knowledge across all aspects of IFEC is much sought after by the world’s leading manufacturers and airlines. As a career professional and much acclaimed speaker Mark brings his experience as an engineer and product designer to audiences at technology conferences and airline industry events worldwide. He is also a member of the respected Apex Payment Terminal Working Group (PTWG) where his insight is helping to enhance passenger experience and ancillary revenue streams for airlines.
As a career marketing professional, Jason Davies joined the IFPL Business Development Team in 2010. In his role as Marketing Executive Jason works closely with the management team to effectively promote IFPL’s innovative passenger audio, interface and payment solutions to the world’s leading airlines, OEM’s and channel partners. Jason possesses considerable B2B and B2C brand marketing experience gained from his work within commercial and government organisations. He uses this enviable experience and insight to develop, manage, monitor and analyse many aspects of the company’s business development activity. This includes trade shows, media engagement, digital marketing and design briefs delivered across multiple media platforms.
Boasting a wealth of aviation experience, Conor came to IFPL in 2016 from Lumexis Corporation and previously worked for GKN Aerospace. With a HND in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Chichester, Conor is also qualified to practitioner level for Prince2 project management techniques. Working closely with the world’s leading seating design and manufacturing companies, Conor works to integrate IFPL products directly into aircraft seats. Here, his experience in implementing IFE systems and their associated challenges have provided him with the valuable knowledge that makes him extremely effective in this role to the benefit of IFPL’s customers. This clear focus on enhancing passenger experience, coupled with a real interest in the direction of the industry allows Conor to work with customers to provide innovative solutions that meet the needs of their passengers and the industry as a whole.
Sam Blakeley joined IFPL in 2011, bringing a leading industrial design element to the company and further enhancing IFPL’s technical capability. From his studies of product design and sustainability at university Sam brings a creative and aesthetic perspective to the company. Within this key role Sam maintains his knowledge and understanding of current and future design trends to assist in IFPL’s product innovation programmes which work to meet the demands of the industry and the passengers they serve. Sam graduated with honours from Farnham University; a specialist arts university with a proven track record of educating creative practitioners who go on to lead in their chosen field.
Hugh Dinsdale joined IFPL in 2006 to develop qualification documentation, but swiftly moved to become Sub-Contract Manager. In this role output was significantly increased through the strategic use of local sub-contractors and a focus on final assembly operations that also enabled 100 percent inspection of all products prior to despatch. With a degree in Mechanical Engineering and over 45 years business experience within defence systems and IFPL, Hugh has built-up an enviable understanding of Airline compliance requirements across all current major commercial aircraft. As Design Compliance Manager he is responsible for compliance across all IFPL products. Hugh also leads the IFPL trained voluntary Community First Responder Team who provide rapid first response for the NHS Ambulance Service to localised medical emergencies.
Simon Batley joined IFPL in 2011 and brought significant professional purchasing and supply planning experience to the company from the construction and renewable energy sectors. As Senior Buyer Simon is responsible for all aspects of procurement and maintaining professional standards across purchase and supply, including a focus on continual improvement within purchasing. Within this role he is also engaged in the strategic management and development of suppliers. Simon takes pride in working closely with both colleagues and suppliers to not only lead negotiations and ensure regulatory compliance but also to use his knowledge and experience to enable IFPL’s suppliers to perform at their very best.
As Senior Electronics Engineer, Marek Szrok leads electronics development within the company. In this important role Marek works closely with colleagues and customers from initial concept design stages to final product delivery, including elements such as analogue and digital circuit design, simulation and PCB layouts. Marek joined the company in 2014 from leading roles within Raymarine and Rolls-Royce. With a Bachelor of Engineering degree from the University of Reading, membership of the respected Institute of Engineering and Technology and as a Six Sigma Green Belt practitioner, Marek takes time to research new and emerging technologies. He uses this knowledge and the extensive R&D facilities within IFPL to not only meet the challenges of today but help develop the innovations of tomorrow that keep IFPL at the forefront of the IFEC industry.
Pete Heather joined IFPL in 2006 as a Quality Engineer, but now holds the post of Project Engineer. Pete specialises in mechanical design and applies the principles of engineering, physics and materials science into the design and manufacturing of IFPL products. With a highly practical BTEC in Engineering he also uses his change control skills to ensure that changes to any product or system are introduced in a controlled and coordinated manner; ensuring that unnecessary changes are avoided and that resources are used efficiently. As you would expect Pete uses leading 3D design applications to deliver flexibility, industry leading design performance and collaboration capabilities to IFPL customers worldwide.
Andrew Preston joined IFPL in 2008 as a Production Operative. Since this time, Andrew has successfully developed his career with the company and now works closely as Operations Assistant, working across the team and directly supporting IFPL’s Operations Manager, Marcus Baker. Within this important role Andrew liaises closely with production colleagues and IFPL’s procurement agents to ensure the smooth flow of orders through the company from initial order visibility through to final delivery of certified parts to customers. Like so many of his colleagues, Andrew participates in the social and charitable activities undertaken by the company. As a keen footballer this has included friendly matches against other local businesses and taking part in the 6-a-side Sunday League.
With previous roles within IFPL since 2013 including Production Operative and Team Leader, Jameson now works closely with Operations Assistant Andrew Preston to oversee and ensure the continuous smooth running of production workflows. Within this, Jameson focuses on reviewing customer orders; working with the procurement team and scheduling the important processes that ensure any requirements are fulfilled seamlessly. As part of this he works to ensure that IFPL’s systems are aligned at all times with those of the customer. As you would expect, this role demands great customer connection, communication and team working skills; ensuring that the ever changing demands of the industry are met. Through Jameson’s attention to detail, foresight and determination, he is able to play his part in helping to maintain IFPL’s exemplary delivery record, which contributes to the company’s current success, future growth and standing across the industry.
Joe joined IFPL in 2016 as a Production Operative and since then has risen through the ranks to directly support both Senior Buyer Simon Batley and Buyer Victoria Massey. Working across the whole team, Joe liaises with his colleagues to raise purchase orders against requisitions from IFPL’s approved suppliers and as directly requested by the Senior Buyer. Within this important supportive role Joe not only works to progress the scheduling and delivery of existing orders but also meets and liaises with IFPL’s vendors and sub-contractors in supplier meetings both on and off site. A keen footballer, Joe, like many of his colleagues, takes part in the social activities undertaken by the company including friendly matches against other local businesses, he also plays for his local team every Saturday.
At the heart of Laurence’s role is the ability to progress engineering programmes from initial research concept into prototype development and full production. Something he accomplishes by working closely alongside the customer and sub-contractors in addition to IFPL’s own business development, engineering, production, quality assurance and compliance teams. With a background in project management in the defence sector, his role within IFPL requires exceptional knowledge and understanding of the process from initial concept to production. Something that also requires the ability to adapt to the complexity and unique set of needs that each development project brings. His interests extend to a great passion for cars and the practical engineering behind them. Laurence is also increasingly involved with fundraising towards new community projects as part of a wider interaction with local community groups.
Joining the company in 2016 as a Purchasing Assistant, Victoria was promoted in 2017 to Buyer. A role in which she takes pride in ensuring that parts and supplies ordered are received on time and at best value. This covers not only production supplies and parts from sub-contractors but also supplies and services for internal use. Having achieved an HNC in Business from Southampton Solent University and with previous valuable experience at Vikoma in the oil and gas recovery markets, Victoria brings a wealth of interpersonal skills, marketing and communication talent to the IFPL team as well as a dedication to continuous supplier development and strategic forward planning - making the procurement process more efficient to the benefit of IFPL’s customers worldwide.
Dan joined IFPL in January 2010 as a Production Operative before moving to become a Production Supervisor, through a positive approach to continuous learning and personal development his role further developed into an Assembly Manager. Leading a growing and experienced Manufacturing Team, Dan aims to develop people from within, using Lean/CI techniques. This has led to implementation of a more standardised workplace, which increases its value to Customers by ensuring assembly operations are kept current and effective whilst driving efficiency with a focus on the elimination of waste.
